David Harris
Director of Regional Policy and Florida Philanthropy
in
the Program on Human and Community Development
The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation
David
Harris was born and raised in New York City. He entered
Harvard College in 1976, majoring in economics and
history. He received the Harvard Institute of Politics
Research Scholar Award, the College Award for Distinguished
Community Service, and the Black Students Assn. Malcolm
X Award for Organizational Development. David graduated
with honors in 1980.
David has been active as a volunteer leader with many
organizations and has received numerous awards and honors.
David currently serves as Vice-Chair of the National
Parenting Association. He is also a member of the Florida
Child Care Executive Partnership board. He is a member
of the Economic Council of Palm Beach County, and Vice
Chair of the Funders Network for Smart Growth and Livable
Communities. He is the past Vice Chair of the Children's
Services Council of Palm Beach County, founding board
Chair of Prime Time Inc. (Palm Beach County's After-school
Programming organization), and former board Chair of
World Class Schools. David is also a former board member
of the Florida Chamber of Commerce Foundation and United
Way of Palm Beach County. David lives in Jupiter, Florida,
and has been a volunteer basketball coach for the Jupiter
Tequesta Athletic Association for four years. He has
been married to Roxanne Harris for 22 years, and has
two sons - Marcus and Malik.
